Shepherd & Heap Commercial real estate agent Marcus Douglas said there had already been strong interest in the Royal Oak Hotel.
He said advertisements went up online a few days ago but it appeared in Domain on Thursday.
Owner Bruce Potter has made the decision to retire after more than four decades as the caretaker of the Oak and hopes to find a buyer passionate of the 167-year-old establishment.
First licensed in 1851 the Royal Oak Hotel is a pub that oozes immense character and ambience, according to the real estate blurb.
On the corner of Brisbane and Tamar streets, it is a great location sited on a popular pedestrian trail.
