Lyons Liberal MHA Mark Shelton raised about $24,000 by walking from Longford to Parliament House in December for the organisation.
It was more than double his original fundraising target of $10,000.
Mr Wright said many of its services StGiles provided were not funded.
“The donation allows us to do a bit extra,” he said.
The funding was the largest single donation StGiles received from an individual in 2017, Mr Wright said.
The donation would be used to assist clients and the children’s therapy services, he said.
Mr Shelton said the support from the community had been absolutely marvellous.
The weather was a challenge with 95 millimetres of rain falling during one day of his walk, he said.
StGiles did fantastic work helping members of the community to support their loved ones of all abilities, he said.
He was also motivated by his grandson Evan, who has Down Syndrome and has received support from the organisation, Mr Shelton said.
He chose not to request funding to be allocated to a certain area as “[the staff] are the experts in this”.
