In the men’s decider, the East Launceston duo of Don Campbell and Peter Barrett held off a late charge from Invermay’s Mark Illingworth and Shane Bowden to prevail 16-13.
The Campbells made it a winning double, with Don’s wife Maggie pairing with Cheryl Watts, of Kings Meadows, to defeat local hopes Mary Beaumont and Sue-Anne Smith 15-12.
World challenge
Tasmania’s Commonwealth Games squad member Rebecca Van Asch will headline a contingent of three Australians to compete in the world cup at Warilla Bowls Club in NSW.
Bowlers from 23 nations will take part in the event from March 6 to 14.
Bowls Tasmania’s chief executive, who will make her Games debut on the Gold Coast after the world cup, is teaming up with Australian no.1 David Ferguson and local favourite Jeremy Henry, who was afforded automatic entry to defend his world cup crown from last year.
Van Asch, of Invermay, and Ferguson earned selection following their Australian Indoor Championship title wins last year.
In an international schedule, Van Asch will play American Alice Birkinshaw first up followed by Val Smith (New Zealand), Loa Babona (Papua New Guinea), Colleen Piketh (South Africa), Sio Peng Chan (Macao China), Emma Saroji (Malaysia), Midori Matsuoka (Japan), Bernice McGreal (Isle of Man) and Masoumeh Manouchehri (Iran).
