The free, family-friendly event will be held at City Park on February 24 from 7pm on the back of a concert in Glenorchy last weekend.
Organisers said they were confident the outside show would go on, despite the rainy weather.
Excited students from St Patrick’s College Big Band have spent weeks practising so they can perform at the event.
College student Nardia Bone, 17, plays the saxophone in the band.
She was looking forward to performing in front of a large audience, Bone said.
"I can’t wait to see their reactions.”
Audiences are encouraged to bring a picnic and relax on a rug to the stunning sounds of the full Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, lead by conductor Elena Schwarz, former assistant conductor of the TSO.
The orchestra will perform pieces by Brahms, Debussy, Smetana and Borodin, and feature soloists Emma McGrath, David Nuttall, and Andrew Seymour.
There will be a range of activities for children as well as a mix of food and beverage options.
