ELECTION time again and the current government has failed to meet needs for Tasmanians.

I wonder if a change of government would be worth a try.
Placing adverts for people to come and live here and others to return here and overseas students being encouraged to study here, and then they have trouble finding rental accommodation.
This is a crisis. One real estate has said “bedlam” in Hobart.
Premier, is this nice for tourists to come to?
As one person said, government has created this situation and it is spending taxpayers’ money on advertising.
I question that and I would hope that government can explain its actions and stop creating a two-tier system.
People need more than a power cheque of $125, but explanations from government that will give hope.
Both sides have promised over $100 million for housing.
I hope our younger generation will stand up and be more engaged.
It's their future.

Thank you
THANK you for donating to our 2017 Vinnies Christmas Appeal and 'Making Wishes Come True'.
Christmas is such a joyful time of year for all of us in communities throughout Tasmania.
But unfortunately it can also be a stressful and sad time for many Tasmanian families experiencing hardship.
Thankfully we have the kindness and support from people like yourself who make a real difference to the people we assist.
Your thoughtfulness and generosity will enable our volunteer members to the deliver the assistance needed for families to celebrate Christmas this year and truly make wishes come true.
On behalf of St Vincent de Paul Society in Tasmania and the people we assist I would like to once again thank you for your donation and wish you and your family a happy and blessed Christmas and best wishes for 2018.

Party in the Paddock
THE picture by Scott Gelston (The Examiner, February 10) shows Tired Lion’s Sophie Hope on stage at the Party in the Paddock.
It also shows Ms Hope’s half-empty bottle of straight Jacks (whisky).
What “hope” is there for our young?

US mass shooting
AMERICANS have had guns in their homes for well over 200 years.
These types of mass shootings ARE only just now happening - the problem is not guns.
Switzerland and Honduras have the same population.
Honduras does not allow its citizens to own guns and leads the world in homicide and other gun crime.
Switzerland demands its citizens own guns and have them at the ready in their homes and is the safest and least violent country in the world.
Chicago, with America's toughest guns laws, had about 800 gun homicides last year.
Alabama, with the loosest gun laws in the US, had one gun homicide.
The problem is not the guns.

Trickle down economics
MOST of us appreciate the deficiencies with trickle down economics just as we do with democracy.
There have been catastrophic attempts with alternatives. Don’t hold your breath that a solution will be found.

Hobart Hurricanes
I DO not agree with the idea from Gillian Todman (The Examiner, February 16) to change the Hobart Hurricanes to the Van Demons.
All the other names in the Big Bash League being named after the capital city. There is another team that already has something like a demon as a mascot.
The Hurricanes' name is fine and as long as free-to-air TV still has Big Bash rights and they continue to play a game in Launceston I don't really think there's anything to complain about.

Clean Green
RECENTLY I took a drive into the forest out near Hollybank.
There are no words that can describe how appalled I am at the domestic filth dumped all along the back roads.
No words can describe my dismay at my fellow humans’ behavior in creating the mess. Do some households not have weekly refuse collection? Is the cost of a trip to the tip too high?
Marilyn Reis, Ravenswood.
Taykana
WHY WOULD the Hodgman Liberal Party and the Jacqui Lambie Network possibly think that destroying 60,000 year old heritage is OK?
Both parties are determined to open the tracks for destruction on the North-West Coast of Tasmania, taykana.
Don't think the Labor Party gets away with this scot-free either. They are sitting on the fence on this issue and need to let the community know who they support.
We need to protect this area from more vandalism. Help protect takayna.
Di Spotswood, South Launceston.
Stickers
PEOPLE received a bumper sticker on February 17 saying: Tasmanians have a chance to outlaw poker machines.
Isn’t it about time people realised, the problem is not the pokies, it is the money people wasted on drugs, which are the greatest issue. For goodness sake, get it right and allow people to enjoy their outing in the venues, of their choice.
