The 17-year-old was named alongside fellow young spinner Mac Wright in a 13-man squad ahead of the Tigers’ four-day clash with New South Wales starting Saturday.
The Tigers have largely fielded an all-out pace attack so far this season, but a turning SCG wicket could be enough to convince coach Adam Griffith to blood the side’s first-ever player born in the 21st century.
Freeman’s inclusion comes after he played a part in Australia’s under-19 world cup campaign in New Zealand, where the Aussies finished runners-up.
The former George Town bowler has also impressed for Tasmania’s Futures League side in recent times, collecting match figures of 8-133 against Western Australia late last year.
Hamish Kingston was the sole omission from the squad.
