The cast had their first costume rehearsal on Sunday
It’s not the first time the iconic show has been tackled by the company, which first tackled the production in 2010, and several actors reprised their roles.
Director Belinda King said she was very pleased with how the show was shaping up after adding costumes, set pieces and props.
“The characters in Victor Hugo's story are larger than life, seeking justice where none exists and depicting a people in revolt,” King said.
“The cast are having an incredible time inhabiting these well-known roles and all intent on delivering their own take on them.”
Set in early 19th century France, the production tells the story of ex-convict Jean Valjean as he attempts to start a new life while under the suspicion of the community and pursued by a former prison guard for breaking his parole.
“With just over three to go until we are in front of an audience, there is a calm confidence within the team that we are on track to deliver a fresh take on Les Mis with a far grittier edge than previously seen here and certainly a lot more physical action,” she said.
The show resonated strongly with audiences, King said.
The show season will run from March 15 to 31 at the Princess Theatre in Launceston.
