Wilson will run an oil painting workshop over three days in March to showcase the finer details of the craft.
Launceston Art Society workshop coordinator Karen Armstrong said Wilson first held a workshop with the society last year.
“He beautifully guides people who want to learn about oil painting,” Armstrong said.
It was such a success they asked him to return to share more of his skills, she said.
The workshop will be held at the Longford RSL Memorial Hall on March 16, 17 and 18.
Oil painting was an old traditional form, which Wilson would go through step-by-step, Armstrong said.
He would delve into using cool and warm palettes to create different landscapes and other scenes, she said.
Former workshop attendee Clare Holder said, in a workshop report, it was a fantastic experience.
“John demonstrated how we could use ‘puddles of greys’, the colour of the day and landscape, and a limited palette, to create harmony and a feeling of distance,” Holder said.
“John is a natural teacher and very generous when sharing what he knows.”
