Richie Porte and a maze are not a natural pairing, but Rupertswood Farm has made it possible.
After a blown tyre, an empty fuel tank, a lost fan belt and a 2am finish owner Rowan Clark successfully mowed a “massive image” of the cyclist into a crop maze at Hagley.
The Clark family design a maze annually and have this year have used Porte as inspiration.
“I have been thinking of a Richie maze for some years now. We are huge fans and love watching him race, particularly in July, when the Tour de France is on,” Mr Clark said.
The maze was designed by international specialists Mazescape.
This year’s design is Mr Clark’s fifth maze.
On the night of mowing, Mr Clark said a lot of things were against him.
“I was pretty exhausted. I had just had a week of harvesting, so after a few hours break, I decided to have a crack at Ritchie. I could not wait any longer,” he said.
For the first time, Hazlebrae House Cafe will be catering for guests. The maze opens on February 24.
