Nearly 30 women aged 17-34 preregistered for the talent search day, one of three North Melbourne Football Club is holding across the state.
AFL Tasmania female talent manager Leigh Elder, just eight days into his role, said about 90 women had registered for the selection days, with about equal numbers in the North, North-West and South.
North Melbourne’s partnership with Tasmania was solidified in the club’s bid for an AFLW 2019 licence, with a commitment to source half the team from Tasmanian players.
North Melbourne football operations manager Laura Kane said the club was confident they could source cross-code talent, experienced football players and new blood to fill their ranks for the 2019 team – it was just a question of how long it would take to reach the quota for Tasmanian players.
