That’s what Lifelink Samaritans has been doing for the Northern Tasmanian community for the past 50 years and now you can help.
President Kim Brundle-Lawrence said a free seven week training course started next week to help people become a “befriender”.
Each Wednesday, starting February 14, a training night will be held from 7.30-10pm in Launceston with two Saturday training sessions.
“We’re after everyday people who have empathy for others.”
The training would cover all the difficult issues including suicide and loneliness, she said.
She encouraged people to call 0417 037 623 if they were interested and could help out for about nine hours a month.
If you need help, the Lifelink support line can be reached on 6331 3355 in Tasmania.
