The 17-year-old St Patrick’s College student has been fighting it out with Legana’s Alexander Geale all season and the pair were expected to go head-to-head in the final event at George Town on Sunday.
However, club president Oliver Cook said Geale is unable to compete leaving Blackaby on track for the crown.
“If a couple of others have an outstanding race they could knock off Will but he’s flying this year so I expect him to run away with the championship,” Cook said.
“He came second in the elite juniors at a race in Victoria last week. He still swims with Riverside Aquatic but is focusing more on triathlon and has given a really strong showing as a junior.
“He’s been the standout club member this year although yet to win a race outright.”
After Sunday, the three best scores from four completed events will determine winners in open, junior, senior, veteran and super veteran categories.
Mel Hill, Ella Boxhall and Catelyn Turner are vying for the female club champion title.
