Opposition Leader Rebecca White announced on Monday that Labor would invest $2 million in funding towards stage one of the Deloraine Community Complex and Education Precinct, if elected.
It comes after Meander Valley Council moved to receive a feasibility study background and summary reports for the precinct at its meeting last month. A working group for the precinct was formed 12 months ago, and compiled the study with the assistance of a Hobart-based consulting firm.
Working group member Doug Tangney welcomed the latest development in the project.
“This support will hopefully initiate the further stages of the project and see it progress from the feasibility report into something the community can use and enjoy,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to the opportunity to redevelop a site that is past it’s current life.”
Meander Valley mayor Craig Perkins said Labor’s commitment was a testament to the groundwork laid by community groups.
“The Deloraine and Districts Recreational Precinct Feasability Study is a foundational Council and community partnership document,” he said.
“This commitment is recognition of the need and value of ongoing investment in the Deloraine recreational facilities”
