The Liberals, on Saturday, announced an $11.6 million election policy for a “long-term, sustainable, economic” investment into the island’s future.
An opposition spokesman said Labor would also be making policy announcements in relation to King Island during the election campaign.
Part of the Liberals’ plan included funding for stage two of the King Island Hospital redevelopment, which would include palliative and acute care, observation areas, and improved emergency and after-hours access.
“Good health services are vital wherever you live, and this important redevelopment will also include dedicated housing for nurses living on King Island, to help improve recruitment and retention of staff,” Premier Will Hodgman said.
The policy also included funds for the airport, biosecurity, the Phoenix Community House, service centre hub, racing club, and telecommunications.
