Bureau of Meteorology’s duty forecaster Anna Forrest said as the week goes on the days were just going to get hotter.
“It’s because the air is not being flushed out, we’re just sitting here under the same amount of air mass,” she said.
“Because the ground heats the air and we’re not getting a lot of cloud it’s just getting hotter and hotter. Then once the high pressure system becomes established out over the Tasman Sea during the week we will also start to get some humidity. So it’s going to start getting very sticky.”
She said while the weather was not unheard of, it was above average.
The bureau’s Ian Barnes-Keoghan said if the forecast was correct Launceston would have 14 days “above average” in a row.
“The average max temp for Launceston for January is 24.4 degrees. Every day since January 15 has been above that,” he said.
“If the forecast verifies, it will be one of the longest runs of ‘above average’ days on record.”
Following from a warm Tuesday, Wednesday is expected to hit 29, Thursday and Friday will be in the early 30s, with the weekend expected to be 35 degrees.
We will also start to get some humidity, so it’s going to start getting very sticky.
