Taking place at Whitemark on Flinders Island, the festival started in 2014 as a Flinders Council initiative, but has grown to be an inclusive Australia Day event that recognises the diverse backgrounds of all islanders.
Flinders community development officer Dolly Wheatley said the festival is an “all time highlight” for islanders.
“Five years ago, Flinders Island decided not to celebrate Australia Day,” she said.
“We now celebrate the weekend before, where we’ve created an event that has something for the whole community.”
The festival program featured an acoustic supper, the festival market day, and verandah music, alongside the festival finale concert and lunch for the last day.
“We’ve worked to create an event that is inclusive for everyone,” Ms Wheatley said.
“It’s working well for our community.”
