The 100-target champion of champions will fire up shooters on Thursday ahead of the state championships at the Evandale range.
Tournament matchday official Alex Calvert expects close to 200 shooters for the four days of competition, including half from interstate.
“It’s not actually in the competition itself – it’s a bit of separate event,” he said.
“I’m not sure how many competitors will be shooting in that event, but it’s something a bit different.
“I think we’re hoping this may help some of the shooters to come over a bit earlier.”
Organisers are also hoping that Commonwealth Games-bound Mitch Iles will return.
A multiple Australian titleholder, Iles has qualified for the trench on the Gold Coast.
Last year the talented teen blew his rivals off the range after shooting a perfect 52 from 52 in the 50-target state single barrel championship.
Iles had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport last year to successfully win his spot for Rio after claiming to shoot better scores than Olympian Michael Diamond.
