Labor Leader Rebecca White said dogs played an essential role in tracking offenders in evasion situations, locating missing people, and helping manage crowds at events.
She said Labor would also introduce a bill that requires motorists to slow down to 40 km/h while passing a stationary or slow-moving emergency vehicle that had either lights on or a siren sounding.
She said this would follow recently adopted interstate laws and was consistent with laws regarding road workers and school buses stopping to pick up or drop off students.
These announcements will be made at the annual Police Association of Tasmania conference on Friday which will also be attended by Premier Will Hodgman.
