Tasmania Fire Service put the ban in place for Thursday, but extended the restrictions due to hot and dry conditions predicted for Friday.
No fires can be lit in open air in the Break O’Day region and Northern Midlands until midnight.
State Fire Controller Greg Butters said “Tasmania Fire Service, along with Parks and Wildlife Service and Sustainable Timber Tasmania are maintaining a heightened state of readiness, with strategically placed strike teams and aircraft, incident management teams and extra firefighting resources on standby in order to attack fires quickly”.
Fires are also banned in the Southern region, which includes the Central Highlands.
Temperatures will rise on Friday with Launceston expecting to hit 35 degrees.
An embargo on all permits remains in place “until further notice”.
Northern Police Commander Brett Smith also warned officers would be “conducting selective visits of known fire bugs”.
