An analysis by comparison site finder.com.au shows there were 44 fatalities within the agriculture, forestry and fishing industry and 3510 serious claims during 2016.

The second and third most dangerous industries were transport, postal and warehousing and construction, finder.com.au insights manager Graham Cooke said.

“Agriculture, forestry and fishing has been the most dangerous industry for the last three years, but luckily the proportion of fatalities and serious injuries has decreased since the year before,” Mr Cooke said.

“Despite being ranked number two, transport, postal and warehousing caused the highest number of fatalities in 2016.”

The figures showed 69 per cent of all fatalities occurred within the three most dangerous industries.

A total of 3,414 Australian workers have lost their lives on the job since 2003.

“Luckily the number of workplace fatalities has decreased by 41 per cent since 2007,” he said.
