Defending Grand Prix winner Callum Harper faces a stellar field and is pleased to be back in the big sedan at his home track.
Ex-Tasmanian and Australian champion Darren Kane will be one of many stars to challenge Harper, while the Victorian contingent includes current Tasmanian champion Mick Nicola alongside Peter Nicola, Mick Nicola Junior and Lucas Roberts.
Out of NSW the ever-popular Lachlan Onley has a score to settle after withdrawing with mechanical issues last year midway through the race while challenging for the lead. Both Darren Anning and Andrew White, also from NSW, are very quick and capable of winning.
From Queensland comes the current state champion and past winner of this event Matt Pascoe as well as Sean Black and ex-Tasmanian Steve Jordan, a former Australian champion, and all are fixated on victory.
Ryan Alexander, of South Australia, was runner up last year and is eager to stand a step higher on the podium. Fellow South Australians Dave Gartner and Kym Jury are both very fast at this track.
Local star David Nicholls is a former winner of this event and he has flown Vic Hill out from the USA to work on his car to ensure it is up to maximum speed.
Local talent Jason McPherson had a great race last year, finishing third, and has the car speed to be a serious contender. Adam Beechey has only raced interstate so far this season but he has learned a lot and will be a serious contender. Remember Beechey passed Harper last year at this track to win a final. Steve Latham has purchased a new Rocket Chassis to give himself every opportunity to add the Grand Prix trophy to his cabinet.
Other local stars include Wayne Dillon, Laura Davidson and Anthony Manion who is having a fantastic season. Robert Bird recently finished runner up in the Geoff Stagg memorial behind Nicholls and nearly won it, so if things go his way he could cause an upset.
The entry list is a veritable who’s who of drivers that all have great chances of winning each evening in one of the most competitive line-ups for many years.
Friday night’s action also includes juniors, street stocks, speedcars and Tassie sixes on the main track, while Saturday night the juniors, street stocks, Formula 500s, wingless and Tassie Sixes will also be racing
Karts start things off Friday from 5pm and Saturday from 4pm. The main track starts at 7pm on Friday and 6pm on Saturday.
