The 17-year-old was one of four players to be left out of the team’s day/nighter.
South Australian legspinner Lloyd Pope, who earned 15 wickets at 17.13 during the under-19 national titles in Tasmania, was preferred over Freeman’s offbreaks.
The George Town talent, who also made 283 runs at 47.17, comparably took nine wickets at 32.33 last month.
Australia were outclassed in New Zealand after falling 100 runs short of the Indians amassing a hefty 7-328.
Freeman will press for a spot in the starting XI in the next games against Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea.
