Launcestonians are in for a warm weekend. A maximum of 30 degrees is predicted for Saturday, with hot and partly cloudy conditions prompting the Tasmania Fire Service to declare a total fire ban for several areas across the state.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting the UV level to reach 13 on Saturday, which is extreme. Sun protection should be worn from 8.40am to 5.40pm.
There will be some reprieve from the heat on Sunday with Launceston expecting a maximum of 26 degrees.
Sunday’s UV level is predicted to reach 11, which is extreme. Sun protection should be worn from 9am to 5.20pm.

Designer Market returns
Penny Royal’s Designer Market will return on Sunday.
Craft-lovers can browse through more than 20 high-quality Tasmanian designers from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
Food and drinks will be available from the restaurant at 9am and Brady's Tavern from 11am.
Penny Royal is located at 1 Bridge Road, Launceston.
Launceston Lilium Show
St Ailbes Hall will be bursting with colour and fragrance during this year’s Lilium Show in Launceston on Saturday and Sunday.
Lilium experts will be available to give advice and information to the public about growing liliums. This year’s show will be held indoors at St Ailbes Hall on Margaret Street on Saturday from 1 to 5pm, and Sunday from 9.30am to 4pm.
Salsa Party at Harvest
The first Harvest Market of the New Year will have plenty of moves, with a salsa party set to take centre stage.
The weather won’t be providing the only heat for the day, as the salsa crew comes by Cimitiere Street for music, dancing, and a social catch up. The Salsa Party will run from 10am to 12.30pm.
AlfanAnt play Saint John’s
Separately, they are known as Aaron Favell and Ant McKenna, but together they are AlfanAnt, an alt-folk country duo with plenty of stories to tell.
The Central Coast act will bring their unique musical outlook to Saint John’s Craft Beer on Saturday evening, where they will be supported by Brad Gillies. The show will start at 8pm.
Festival of Small Halls
The Festival of Small Halls comes to Tasmania this weekend, with a shows at Longford on Saturday.
Part of the summer 2017/18 tour, Claire Anne Taylor and The Small Glories are scheduled to play sets in 10 Tasmanian regional halls.
The show will be held at the Longford Town Hall with doors opening at 6.30pm.
Music makes its way into City Park
The first edition of the Launceston City Council’s Music in the Park series will be held at the City Park Rotunda this Sunday from 12.30pm-2.30pm.
The first of five free sessions will feature the St Andrews Caledonian Pipe Band and West Tamar Band.
There will also be a free House of Bounce jumping castle, as well as the usual City Park train rides.
On Sunday January 14, The Fergusons will take to the stage.
