Tasmania Police confirmed on Tuesday the youths had been interviewed and officers believed they “did not mean to cause the damage they did”.
“The boys will receive some education and advice from TFS and police,” Inspector Michael Johnston said.
“While the fire was deliberately lit, they did try to put it out and did not mean for it to spread. It’s a timely reminder of the importance of speaking to children about safe fire behaviour.”
The 15-hectare blaze started last Tuesday afternoon and traveled as close as 10 metres to George Town homes, sparking the first emergency bushfire warning for 2018.
Emergency crews managed to contain the blaze and were cleaning up the scene by Tuesday night.
It is understood a pile of rubbish may have been used to start the fire.
