About $10 million in grants for Tasmanian wine makers was made available by the state and federal governments in December.
The dual International Wine Tourism Competitive Grants and the International Wine Tourism State Grants programs aim to provide funding for vineyards and cellar doors to help them develop stronger offerings for international tourists.
Tasmanian Liberal Senator David Bushby said the grants would help grow the industry.
"Together, these grants enhance the wine tourism experiences of international visitors—helping grow wine exports and further strengthening the reputation of Tasmania’s wines on the international stage,”
Wine Tasmania chief executive Sheralee Davies said the grants were welcomed, but that it was important to understand the context of the funding.
“I certainly think a lot of wine growers would find any opportunity to get support for exports and tourism of great interest,” she said.
“However, both grant programs have all come through increases in wine taxes.
“It’s great to have the consolation [of the grants], but it is at the expense of Tasmanian businesses.”
