The alert was put in place after consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services, and affects the entire supply network of Moles Creek.
Further testing is being carried out to investigate all possible sources of contamination.
TasWater urges all Moles Creek residents are urged to boil their drinking water, and water used for brushing teeth, washing and preparing food or beverages, preparing baby formula, and making ice.
Unboiled water can be used for washing dishes, provided they are air-dried after washing, showing and bathing as long as water is not swallowed, and for washing clothes.
There is no increased risk to animals.
The boil water alert will be in effect until both TasWater and the DHHS are confident that there is no longer a public health concern to Moles Creek residents.
The DHHS advised that consuming unboiled water could lead to illnesses such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps.
If you have any health concerns contact your GP or DHHS on 1800 671 738.
