The 28-year-old from Ulverstone on Wednesday made it two wins in the prestigious Latrobe Gift when she beat home Hobart’s Amy Pedder and Launceston’s Laura Downie in the 120m foot-race.
Chapman, who also saluted in 2015 and third last year as Morgan Mitchell began her successful Christmas Carnivals tour, described her latest victory as a special one.
“I wasn’t expecting that one as all as I just wanted to make the final,’’ said Chapman, who had a handicap of 4.50m.
“I can’t believe that I won again only two years after winning last time.
“I tried not to put too much pressure on myself and to just see what happens on the day and so I was really happy with how I ran today, so hopefully I can keep on running well for the rest of the series.”
She admitted feeling some nerves considering the field of the final, which also included three-time Burnie Gift winner Morgan Gaffney, Lily James and Laura McShane.
“I’m always nervous before a big gift and Morgan is a really strong runner, but I try not to worry about anyone else and I just try to run my own race.
“I’m still in a bit of shock and it is still sinking in.”
Chapman, who juggles her running endevours with a career in Launceston as a doctor, could now look to the Burnie Gift as another outlet for success this series, considering it is run over the same distance.
“I’d love to make the Burnie final and there are some strong runners coming over the mainland and I think there are three Stawell Gift finalists running at Burnie, so it is going to be tough, but I will do what I can.”
Chapman won her heat in 14.14 before doing the same in her semi-final in 14.02.
Stawell Gift winner Liv Ryan, who had a handicap of 4m, was eliminated at the semi-final stage, finishing fourth in Chapman’s semi in a time of 14.29.
