Eighty per cent of tickets have been sold to Saturday’s clash between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder at UTAS Stadium, which will hold around 17,000 after sight screens are put in place.
“We’re very pleased,” Cummins said.
“The Hurricanes fans in the North and North-West have responded really positively and it’s a great sign of the level of enthusiasm for Big Bash in that part of the state and is hopefully the sign of more things to come.
“They’ve demonstrated a great desire for Big Bash content and that desire would really encourage us to consider having more games there in the future.”
The Hurricanes opened their season with a seven-wicket loss to Melbourne Renegades on Thursday night, with only 11,010 making their way into Bellerive Oval – about 6500 fewer than last year’s average.
Cummins hosed down speculation that the Launceston fixture had affected crowds down South, saying a 7.50pm timeslot and the time of year had both contributed to a smaller attendance.
“It was the last day of school for a lot of schools in the Hobart area and also very close to Christmas Eve and Day so there’s a lot of things competing for attention.
“It’s our hardest game to sell - it always is - and it’s by no mean a reflection of how the other three games in Hobart are going to track, they’re tracking pretty well.
