Receiving his results on Tuesday morning, Mr Coe scored a remarkable 99.95, meaning his plans to go to Monash University to study a double degree in engineering and science are secured.
“I was very nervous getting [the results], I had to go on a run to de-stress,” Mr Coe said.
“I got the initial subject results and I’m like, hold on, was that going to be enough?
“When I got the actual email later I was very happy indeed.”
Mr Coe’s achievement is all the more remarkable for the fact that he was not only studying for his TCE exams this year, but was also taking some university-level subjects at the Australian Maritime College through the University of Tasmania’s High Achiever Program.

Studying mathematics and Japanese, Mr Coe said he managed the extra workload thanks to support from Scotch to make room in his daily schedule.
“The university subjects weren’t exactly aligned, it was still a case of having that time to study while catching up on everything,” he said.
“There were a lot of times I had to do a bit of extra stuff to revise for tests.”
While his school career has concluded, Mr Coe said he has no plans for a gap year – rather it’s straight into university to continue his studies.
Independent Schools Tasmania chief executive Tony Crehan congratulated the 48 students from independent schools who were named in the top 100 students in the state.
Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff also paid tribute to Mr Coe and his 99 peers whose “exceptional academic achievement” placed them in the top 100 by Australian Tertiary Admission Rank.
Scotch Oakburn had 15 students in the top 100 Tasmania students this year.
