Health Minister Michael Ferguson has released an update on the number of new hospital beds across Tasmania, including information from research conducted by Deloitte on Tasmania’s health system.

Launceston General Hospital has opened 19 new beds, with a total of 79 beds and four treatment recliners open across the state.
Mr Ferguson repeatedly denied the existence of a report by Deloitte into the state’s health system, insisting the report did not exist.
However on Tuesday he told a Legislative Council subcommittee inquiry into Tasmania’s acute health system that Deloitte had undertaken surveys and interviews into the effectiveness of the one health system.
Releasing the update on Sunday, Mr Ferguson said Deloitte’s report showed “strong support” for the one health system.
“However the survey and interviews showed that the THS Executive is not yet operating effectively, with a need to improve communication, consultation, process, culture, accountability and relationships,” he said.
Deloitte interviewed 36 senior health professionals across THS executive and clinical sectors, DHHS and external stakeholders, and surveyed 317 THS senior leaders, with a response rate of 46 per cent.
The results found the “perceived lack of unity of the THS Executive” appeared to impact the entire organisation and undermined the leadership group.
The Australian Medical Association Tasmania strongly criticised the THS executive structure at the subcommittee inquiry, with Dr Stuart Day labelling it “toxic, threatening, top-heavy”.
