Just three days after claiming a 14-run win over the Sydney Sixers, the Hurricanes put on another impressive showing thanks to the new opening partnership of D’Arcy Short (38 off 26) and Alex Doolan (40 from 23).
The duo’s first-wicket stand of 71 set the tone for the innings, with George Bailey hitting 41 off 31 to help his side to an ominous 5-175.
Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade also contributed with the bat, making a 16-ball 24, while spinner Cam Boyce added icing to the cake by hitting all-rounder James Faulkner for successive sixes.
The Stars never got going in reply and were effectively out of the game when they reached 5-46 after seven overs.
Former Tasmanian Tiger Evan Gulbis tried to reinvigorate the Stars’ run chase with a well-made 47 but eventually holed out to Short, who took two wickets for the game, as did Boyce and Clive Rose.
The Hurricanes play Melbourne Renegades in their first Big Bash game on Thursday.
