The first major upgrade of the paediatric ward in more than 30 years, the $9.8 million project will expand the size of the children’s ward by about one-third.
The refurbished ward 4k is set to incorporate both a Paediatric Inpatient Unit and Paediatric Mental Health Unit. It will also allow for the separation of younger children and teenagers to provide more appropriate care.
The latest development follows the approval of the plans last month.
Health Minister Michael Ferguson said he was pleased to see the project moving forward.
“This $9.8 million project is testament to our commitment to invest in and improve our health system,” he said.
“It is also only possible because we have balanced the budget, meaning we can afford to invest more money into essential services like health.”
The tender process closes on February 2, 2018.
