The day didn’t start well with Launceston’s Lauren Perry forced out before turning a pedal over in anger.
After a ninth place finish in the opening scratch race, defending champion, Amy Cure had her hopes ended after failing to start the second race of the day, the omnium tempo race.
The Penguin rider then withdrew from the rest of the event.
Launceston’s Georgia Baker fared little better, getting through the tempo race but pulling out before the elimination race.
Devonport’s Macey Stewart battled the flu throughout to finish 10th overall, with a best finish of second in the elimination race.
Launceston’s Zack Gilmore was in better health for his debut in the senior men’s race, ending the day in a respectable 18th place, with a best finish of 12th in the elimination race.
Latrobe’s Cameron McPherson competed in the under 19 qualification scratch race, but could only manage 13th in his heat and didn’t progress to the next stage.
The men’s title at the championships was won by Sam Welsford while the honours in the women’s event went to Ashlee Ankudinoff.
Cure, Baker and Perry will hope to be feeling better before the National Madison Championship and Austral Wheelrace on Saturday.
