Sheffield’s Kody Steers defeated the best woodchoppers Tasmania has to offer on his way to his fifth straight Tasmanian 400mm Underhand championship at the Rosebery Carnival on Saturday.

With six woodchoppers in the field with podium finishes on the state circuit this year, the final went down to the wire, as Steers narrowly broke through the log ahead of Stephen Foster, with Foster making his frustration clear after knocking over his log after finishing.
Third place went to Josh Bakes, ahead of Andrew Kelly and Geoff Lovell, with Sam Cook rounding out the field in sixth place.
Steers backed up from his Tasmania title victory to claim the 300mm Club Standing Championship event.
In the 225mm Standing Handicap, Wes Foster claimed the title in front of Riley Sheehan and Michael Maine.
Wes Foster’s form continued in the 300mm Standing Handicap taking with his second victory of the day.
Bailey won the 250mm Standing Handicap and in the 300mm Underhand Handicap, Will Lovell was too strong on his way to the title.
In the Rock Drilling, Zeehan’s Adrian Williams claimed his first Tasmanian Singles Rock Drilling Championship after 24 years of trying.
The driller affectionately known as Pippy defeated his doubles partner and 2010 champion David Sheahen in the nail-biting final.
Sheahen put the disappointment of finishing second in the singles to collect four victories in the team events.
Sheahen paired up with Williams to claim the title in the doubles the pair backed up with victory in the No Push.
He then teamed up with Troy Blake and Mark Andrew to win the Three Man over the family team of Mick, Terry and Dale Burns.
Sheahan’s final title came in the Jack and Jill with Rebecca Sheahen, with victory over Brianna Aylett and Andrew.
In the remaining events of the day, Jayden Hall took out the novice event and Trinton Rubens won the B Grade singles.
