A notice of intention has been advertised as part of a traffic management scheme to reduce vehicle numbers and warn people they are entering a hospital zone.
Located between Howick and Frankland Street, the proposal includes a raised pedestrian crossing with flashing warning lights, an upgraded roundabout on a raised platform at Frankland Street, and a 40km/h speed limit.
Written representation on the proposal can be made to the council until January 6, 2018.
The stretch of road in front of the hospital is notorious for heavy traffic, and is also the site of a taxi rank and bus stops.
The current speed limit on Charles Street is 50km/h.
