As a nurse, she said, "you never know what you’re going to get", but one thing remains a constant - patient care.
Mrs Philpot was one of 30 professionals recently recognised for 25 years of continuous service to Tasmanian healthcare.
Based at Launceston General Hospital, she now feels like she has come full circle in a career that has brought both professional and personal fulfilment.
"I have been able to work continuously and that is something I am very grateful for," she said.
"The beauty of it is I have still been able to have a family and work the hours that suit those needs.
"And after all this time, I still love doing it.
“It is always a bonus when you enjoy what you do for a living.”
Now a mother of four, throughout her nursing career Sharon has worked as both a midwife and a surgical nurse.
She is now using her decades of experience to train the next generation as Nurse Manager at LGH's education unit.
Mrs Philpot said moving into a nurse educator role was something that came quite naturally to her, after working as a clinical nurse in the LGH’s re-entry to practice program.
There, she found a new sense of fulfilment, assisting nurses re-entering the workforce.
“I definitely feel very strongly about my education role,” she said.
“Nurses need that support and it is really important that they are coming into the system content with their knowledge.
“This is an industry where practices are always changing and developing.
“So it is very important to keep up with it all.”
A passion for education is something that would lead Mrs Philpot to one of her proudest achievements – completing a Masters of Clinical Nursing as a mature-aged student at the University of Tasmania.
"I realised with the direction I was going in my career, I needed to take a step back and receive some more training," she said.
“I can look back now and know I have worked hard to get where I am, and feel confident I am doing the best job that I can.”
