An aggressive wombat has been put down by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks and Wildlife after apparently attacking several people near Weymouth in the state’s North-East.

A DPIPWE spokesman said a number of people had reported aggressive behaviour from the wombat, which attacked several people and caused problems for the small town over several weeks.
The wombat was euthanised on veterinary advice “in the interests of public safety” by DPIPWE.
