It looks like the first day of summer will bring some much needed rain across the state as Tasmania bids farewell to one of the hottest Novembers on record.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicted November would be a record breaking month, with some of the hottest average maximum temperatures recorded across the state.
This followed on from the highest average temperatures ever recorded for October at 14.1 degrees.
The final day of spring is shaping up to be another schorcher, with 31 degrees predicted for Thursday.
Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Brittain said both Hobart and Launceston are currently sitting 0.5 degrees above the previous monthly records for November.
“Given the final two days of the month will see the mercury peaking in the high 20’s or low 30’s, these records will almost certainly be broke,” he said.
But don’t get too excited for a hot start to the summer season, with rain and isolated thunderstorms predicted for Friday.
Mr Brittain said Tasmanians should make the most of the heat while they can, with temperatures expected to drop significantly heading into the final month of 2017.
”A strong frontal system will bring cloud, wind and rain across the Apple Isle from December 1,” he said.
“The maximum temperature will be over ten degrees colder in some places on Friday compared to Thursday.
“So make the most of the last few days of spring, for summer will begin on a very different not.”
In what has been a crazy month of weather across the state, November started with a series of cold fronts, bringing snow as low as 600 metres in the state’s north and nightly temperatures of zero.
Fast forward two weeks and Tasmanians were sweltering through some of the highest average temperatures on record.
For the last day of Spring, temperatures are expected to reach 31 degrees in Launceston before a 95 per cent chance of rain for Friday.
Rain is expected in the west and south, extending throughout the afternoon with possible local heavy falls and the chance of isolated thunderstorms across the north.
The wet conditions are expected to continue over the weekend.
