Their hours of painstaking practice will pay off on Friday night when they and nearly 20 other school bands take to the stage at Albert Hall for a night of big band music.
Launceston College music teacher and organiser of the Esk Band Extravaganza Peter Quigley said many of West Launceston’s pupils only started playing instruments at the beginning of the year – but their progress has been remarkable.
Mr Quigley said nearly 500 students from different schools will take part in the concert in the Esk Band’s 17th year, the first time it has been held at Albert Hall.
The program aims to give high quality music instruction to Tasmania’s students across the North.
“It’s one of the best primary school programs in Australia,” Mr Quigley said.
Bookings at Princess Theatre or at the door, Albert Hall, Friday 7.30pm.
Tickets: $20 adults, $10 concession.
