After a highly successful inaugural season, TWL North will expand to six teams for the upcoming year.
George Town and South Launceston football clubs have been granted licences, while Old Scotch received a provisional licence to join in 2019.
After an application process overseen by AFL Tasmania and the Northern Tasmanian Football Association these clubs were successful due to their preparation work and strong junior pathways.
“We congratulate the successful clubs in their entry into the TWL North competition for 2018,” AFL Tasmania’s Leigh Elder said.
“We envisage that the majority of clubs will have a women’s team within five years and it is an important process to ensure we grow as well as protect this market during its expansion phase.”
Elder said it is predicted the majority of NTFA clubs will be participating in the women’s competition within five years, which can only benefit the growth of football across all levels.
