Documents seen by The Examiner show that Cr Archer and Alderman Wood will appear before the Selection Committee on Friday, along with sitting members Peter Gutwein, Michael Ferguson and Sarah Courtney.
Liberal Party of Australia (Tasmanian Division) state director Sam McQuestin said the group would address members of the electorate on Friday night.
“Those members make the recommendation to the state executive. It’s the members prerogative to choose who they want to recommend for endorsement,” he said.
Treasurer Peter Gutwein both Alderman Wood and Cr Archer would be strong candidates if chosen to be part of the Bass ticket.
“They have both been very strong in respect to the representation of their local communities and I am certain that if they were preselected that they would continue to provide very strong representation,” he said.
Alderman Wood works as an electorate officer for Senator David Bushby, has two children and for 20 years managed the outdoor furniture store Leisure Living in Launceston.
According to the preselection application his goals, if elected, would be to “keep Tasmania progressing to ensure better futures for our community, to help deliver a majority Liberal government and to advocate for North-East Tasmania.”
Cr Archer has been on the George Town Council sincw 2009 and held the positions of both deputy mayor and mayor.
She is the administrator of her family farm, has five children and is most interested in policy areas involving economic development, health and education.
In her application for preselection she voiced a passion to see continued economic growth in Tasmania, particularly in regional areas.
Mr Gutwein is also preparing to address the selection committee himself on Friday night.
“Preselection is a vote by the membership. I will be speaking to them about the work that I have been engaged in both recently and over the period of time that I have been a member of Parliament and I am hopeful that they will once again support me to represent them here in Bass,” he said.
Labor has already revealed its contenders for Bass, with five candidates in the running.
