Ms White is at $1.20 to be premier after the election, according to a sportsbet.com.au market.
Current Liberal Premier WIll Hodgman is at $4.
While the market simply allows bets on the party of the next premier and does not specifically name Ms White or Mr Hodgman, both are set to lead their parties to the election, expected in March.
The market had the Greens (Cassy O’Connor) at $15 to provide the next premier, and had no other options.
Sportsbet clearly expected a hung parliament, with the Liberals to lose their majority.
It also expected a Labor-led minority government ($1.22) was more likely than a Liberal one ($4).
It had a Liberal majority government (13 seats or more) at $15 on Tuesday afternoon and a Labor majority government at $17.
EMRS statewide polling in early August suggested a hung parliament was likely.
It had the Liberals on 37 per cent, Labor on 34 per cent and the Greens on 16 per cent.
“Independent” was on 6 per cent, the Jacqui Lambie Network on 5 per cent and “others” on 1 per cent.
FEDERAL LEVEL
The betting agency’s outlook for the Liberals was not much better at federal level.
It had Labor at $1.50 to win the next federal election and the Coalition at $2.55.
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation was at $21 and the Australian Conservatives at $101.
Prime Minister Malcolm was favourite to lead the government to the next election, at $1.90, ahead of Foreign Minister Julie Bishop ($4).
Ex-PM Tony Abbott and Immigration Minister Peter Dutton were on the next line of betting at $5.50, with Treasurer Scott Morrison at $8.
Meanwhile, Shadow Transport and Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese ($1.75) was favoured to be Labor’s next leader after current Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.
Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen ($3.50) and Deputy Leader Tanya Plibersek ($4.5) followed.
Former Labor prime ministers Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard were at $101 to become Labor’s next leader, as was Rebecca White.
Both ex-PMs are no longer in the parliament and Ms White has shown no sign of planning a move to federal politics.
Meanwhile, there was little optimism from punters that the federal budget would return to surplus.
The favourite was “2020-21, or later, or never,” at $1.05.
Second favourite was 2019-20, at $8.
