The local Blues lost their last nine wickets for just 30, falling nine runs short in chasing 102 in Sunday’s crossover women’s T20 clash against Wynyard.
Opening batters Emma Manix-Geeves (37) and Maddison Hill (25) guided Riverside into a strong position at the NTCA No.2 Ground.
But a dynamic six-wicket haul from 14-year-old Abbey Hawkins totally changed the complexion of the contest.
Hawkins claimed both openers and removed captain Sophie Parkin for a duck.
She finished the job to capture 6-17 in just 23 balls.
Parkin had tightened the screws on Wynyard’s batters in a magnificent display of controlled bowling.
The hometown opening bowler snared 3-5 off four overs, including 22 dot balls.
But Wynyard captain Kahla Summers knocked up 23, Alana Woodhouse 20 and Samantha Cotton an unbeaten 19 to set up the win.
