The council announced plans for a $300,000 upgrade to the current park in July, as a part of its 2017-18 capital works program.
The upgrades come in the wake of the council closure of neighbouring skate parks in Waverley and Mayfield over the last five years.
Launceston City Council officials have been in contact with skaters to gauge the preferences of locals for the new park.
Initial feedback indicated demand for a skate park similar to the newly constructed facility at Rosny Park in Hobart.
The $1.4 million facility in the state’s south was opened in 2016, and is currently the biggest skate park in Tasmania.
Following the council’s community consultation, Rosny Park designer Concrete Dreams was contracted to design the new Ravenswood park.
The Kingston-based company was also helped by Ramp Wizard for the design.
Concrete Dreams owner Simon Williams said the new park would have “similar obstacles”, but would have its own unique flavour.
“Rosny Park’s [skate park] is more youth focussed than Ravenswood – it has a stage and a bowl,” he said.
“The Ravenswood park is designed to be a community area.
“There is going to be bike tracks and family areas – the skate park is part of a larger community area.”
Ramp Wizard owner Carlo Cassan added that the new park will be of a much higher quality than any other parks in the state’s north.
“We wanted to create a skate park to a much higher level than anything else available,” he said.
“It is much more progressive than the one’s there now.”
Mr Williams said the design showed a commitment from Launceston City Council to low socio-economic areas.
“I believe the council’s been quite progressive with the plans,” he said.
“They’ve got a good plan to engage people from a low socio-economic area.”
Tenders are being accepted from 9am on Tuesday until 2pm on Friday, December 15.
