West Tamar Council may boost its funding to rebuild a jetty near Port Dalrymple Yacht Club beyond its budgeted contribution.

Councillors will consider the funding boost for the project when they meet for a council meeting on November 21.
The proposal follows a state government decision to make a $30,000 grant to the club to assist with the cost of rebuilding the jetty.
The council has a budgeted contribution of $20,000 after it was approached last year for funding assistance by the club.
In the meeting agenda, Councillor Peter Kearney puts forward a motion to increase the council’s contribution to $30,000 “as to match the state government’s commitment”.
“The positive response from the council was very encouraging for the club and was the basis of the club approaching a range of other funding bodies,” Cr Kearney said.
“The club is very appreciative of the support given by the council especially at that early stage.”
The project has been costed at more than $300,000.
Built in the 1950s, the main jetty serves as the only on-water, public refueling point in the area.
Rebuilding the jetty would improve berthing by spacing existing club pontoons into deeper water and provide a dedicated fuel berth for local and interstate boating community use.
The club has sought and received additional funding support from the Tasmanian Community Fund, Marine and Safety Tasmania, Tas Ports as well as donations of materials and the grant from the state government.
“Together with funds from Port Dalrymple Yacht Club, the project budget is within sight,” Cr Kearney said in the council agenda.
If the proposed funding boost from the West Tamar Council was approved, Cr Kearney said it would go close to achieving the budget while also using the Australian Sports Commission for a special appeal.
The preliminary work for the project has been started with construction already underway and a TPG donated gas pipe and piles were installed early last week.
The motion will require an absolute majority at the council meeting for the funding boost to pass.
