Held nationally every year, the appeal encourages businesses and members of the community to make contributions so families who are less fortunate may be able to enjoy the day. Society chief executive John Falzon said Tasmanians were always generous at this time of the year.
“People out there have very generous hearts and real affection for the St Vincent de Paul Society,” he said.
“They know we are just ordinary people giving a hand up to other ordinary people.
“This is just a bit of a reminder that Christmas time can be particularly hard for families that are struggling below the poverty line and can’t afford to do something special for their kids.”
