The sparkling wine festival is hosting an ‘anti-masterclass’ to teach people ‘what the fizz?’ is on Saturday.
Brisbane-based consultant sonmelier Peter Marchant will host the event.
“Wine in general can be intimidating for most people because it’s just a broad and deep subject and people get carried away with it very quickly,” Mr Marchant said.
“We’re going to start with some history and a bit of a glossary in there to explain all those long french words that no one really knows what they mean and some technical stuff.”
Josef Chromy wine maker and Effervescence organiser Jeremy Dineen said the event was created to breakdown the jargon.
“We created this event so that people can turn up with little or no prior wine knowledge and learn about what goes in to making sparkling wine in a fun environment and without having to worry about whether they will be able to understand,” Mr Dineen said.
A number of events will be held at Josef Chromy Wines over the Effervescence weekend. Mr Dineen is expecting “several hundred” people to attend the festivities. For the full list of what is happening visit effervescencetasmania.com
Guest chef Jacque Reymond was flown to Tasmania on Friday to match a 10-course degustation menu to a bunch of Tasmania sparkling wines.
“We’ve gone the other way. Normally one of Peter’s jobs would be to go to a restaurant that already has a menu and he would match the wines with it. We have asked him to match the wines with his foods,” Mr Dineen.
