Doctor? Electrician? Circus performer?
An event at Kings Meadows High on Thursday helped take out some of the guess-work by bringing businesses to the students, with more than 30 businesses rolling up to show what careers they can offer.
The Careers on Wheels event, supported by Beacon Foundation and organised by teacher Angela Hudson and Beacon student ambassador Keelan O’Byrne, was well-received by visiting students from a number of schools.
“It was a lot to manage with finishing grade 10 as well,” Keelan said.
“I didn’t realise it was so close, I was still calling businesses yesterday confirming they’d be here.”
Business cars were parked in the Kings Meadows High courtyard and representatives offered students the opportunity to talk directly to managers, recruiters and trainers about what a career could look like.
TasRail training coordinator Kylie Anderson said the event was an excellent opportunity to show how many careers the company could offer, and it was clear many students were serious about their career prospects.
ANZ Launceston branch manager Sonya Read agreed, saying students often had surprising questions about her day-to-day work.
