Sheep Producers Australia became the peak industry body for Australia sheep and lamb industry, replacing the Sheepmeat Council of Australia.

The council was established in 1978 and represented farmers on sheep and lamb industry issues for nearly 40 years.

This change to Sheep Producers Australia enables the council to modernise its operations to better serve Australian sheep producers, chief executive Dr Kat Giles said.

“Producers have the opportunity to be heard nationally through a professional organisation, underpinned by best-practice governance principles,” Dr Giles said.
