Kate Middleton says Prince William struggled at first with being a new dad

The Duchess of Cambridge has admitted during a visit to Hornsey Road Children's Centre in London, that her husband, Prince William, initially struggled with parenthood.

With the couple, both 35, expecting their third child next April, Middleton took the time out to speak to a single father, Billy, who is raising his seven month daughter, Violet, alone.

During their conversation, Billy explained his early struggles with parenting, before the mother-of-two said her husband "did not know exactly what to do" initially when both Prince George and Princess Charlotte were born.

"She was saying William was sort of similar and I just wanted to let her know how Family Action have been there for me and I think they need more support," said the 39-year-old father according toHello magazine.

Family action, a charity of which the Queen is patron, is among the organisations at the care facility that provides vital care and mental health support for parents.

Middleton also bonded with other pregnant women, mothers and their young children, including mother-of-two Michelle over their sons' love of aircraft.

"She was asking about what Jacob liked and he said he liked aeroplanes and was asking if he'd seen a Spitfire and we said we liked going to the Science Museum and RAF museum. She was saying how George likes helicopters, she was saying about the top floor of the Museum where the helicopters are," said Michelle.

Volunteer worker Maggie Sandy, said the Duchess "genuinely was interested."

"It's so good because it really raises the profile of perinatal mental health. We always say that this goes across social class, we reach all sorts of parents and it is actually to do with being a parent and she can relate to that."

Middleton, who was wearing a cream coat by Goat, recycled from her 2013 pregnancy with Prince George, also chatted about breastfeeding and showed concern over cuts to childcare centres. It is the second time that she has worn the brand in recent weeks, pairing it with Stuart Weitzman knee-high boots, tights and a Mulberry clutch.

The visit was originally scheduled for early September, but was cancelled last minute due to thd Duchess suffering acute morning sickness.
